About Mannen mountain
View from Manen mountain is one of the most beautiful in the Lofoten islands. Mannen is surrounded by the most beautiful beaches of the Lofoten Islands. This is Haukland beach, Uttakleiv beach and Vik. From the peak there is a stunning view of the Lofoten Islands.

Summer is the best season for hiking to Mannen. But always monitor the weather forecast. The trail can be wet and slippery.
Lofoten is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for artists and photographers around the world. I wrote this manual to share my Lofoten travel experience with you. I’d be very glad if this book helps and inspires you to create new amazing photos.
The way to Mannen mountain is not the easiest one in Lofoten but you should definitely climb this mountain. Haukland beach is the start of a trail and you should follow to the peak of Mannen. This makes a climb one of the most simple and interesting on Lofoten.
Location: Haukland, Vestvågøy
Round trip: 4 km (round trip)
To top: 400 meters
Hike duration: 1 – 1,5 hours to top
Level: easy/some moderate
By the car, drive along the E10 to Leknes. It does not matter from what point you are driving you will see a turn to Uttakleiv and Haukland. Take this road and drive to Haukland beach. There is a distance of about 11 km. Before the tunnel on the left side there will be quite a large parking lot. Leave the car here 68.199406, 13.529596.
From the parking lot go on foot. You should to cross the road in front of the tunnel and follow the tractor road.
After a couple of hundred meters you will see trampled grass and footprints leading to the mountain. This is the start of the trail which you will follow leads to the pass. On the pass one path leads to the Uttakleiv beach and the second path leads to the left to Mannen mountain.
The trail in some places is quite slippery and wet.
I used trekking poles during the hiking on the mountain but several times slipped on wet and stones covered with slippery mud.
The trail leads along a steep cliff and quite clearly visible. Except for a few steep rocks, the route is moderate difficulty. Sometimes the trail is close to the precipice be careful but overall the route is not dangerous and does not require good fitness and special equipment. If you take your comfortable pace then be sure to go up to Mannen.
Where to stay
On Mannen mountain to put a tent is difficult and to do there wild camping is inexpedient. You will easily go downstairs where you will find a wonderful camping site on the green grass near Haukland beach.
There is an interactive Google map of the Lofoten Islands. This will help you plan your trip. Save this Google map on your smartphone or tablet and use it during the trip.
