RECOMMENDED CAMERA GEAR
“What camera gear do you use?”
One of the most common questions that ask which photographers to each other.
The equipment I listed is quite expensive. But this gear was tested in the field and did not let the professional photographers. Perhaps you do not need such expensive equipment. Shoot with the best device that you can afford for your money. And most importantly, don’t forget to learn from the best photographers. I recommend the equipment that I use myself.
Camera and lenses
I use Canon
- EOS 5 DSR
Probably this is the best camera today. This camera has the highest resolution of 50 megapixels and 4K video recording function. By the drawback of this camera, I can attribute a very large size RAW file. But this camera is excellent. The absence of a low-pass filter allows you to get amazing details of your images.
- EOS 6D
My second camera. A solid action camera in a dependable and affordable package. Not remarkable but it gets the job done as my second body.
- EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM
My favorite landscape lens, amazing sharpness from corner to corner, good AF, and standard 77 mm thread makes it easy and affordable to use a polarizing filter.
- EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM
This is a standard zoom lens, which is always in demand, even IS for handheld or aerial work and very good macro function.
- EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM
The telephoto lens has a narrower angle of view, so the scene appears magnified in the frame. You will need, especially when shooting the mountain scenery or remote objects.
- EF 11-24mm f/4L USM
I use this lens to shoot Aurora. It’s a very specific lens, but it’s a real diamond. Maybe soon it’ll replace my 16-35/4.
- TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II
The best for architectural shooting. I use this lens for architectural photography. Look my galleries about Venice.
I don’t need a wide aperture lens, and the weight of my equipment is much smaller.
My supporting system
- Tripod Gitzo GT3543LS Systematic Series 3 Carbon Fiber Tripod (Long)
182 cm. The version “long” is much more convenient than an ordinary tripod. Tripods Gitzo has unsurpassed quality and I have been using the products of this manufacturer for more than 10 years.
- Gitzo Short Spike and Rubber Feet Set
Tripod spike is a necessary accessory for a tripod of a landscape photographer.
- GH3382QD Series 3 Center Ball Head
The ball-and-socket allows you to rotate the camera around the sphere and quickly lock in any position. It’s convenient and easy.
- L-bracket for Canon
One of the most convenient accessories for shooting. You will forget all the problems with portrait and landscape orientation of the camera.
It’s a piece of very convenient equipment for my camera. Be sure to buy it.
-
Remote Release Shutter EOS
The remote release is required when shooting at long exposure, in the Bulb mode and saves a camera from shakes.
Lee Filters Sistem
- LEE Filters SW150 Mark II Filter System Holder for Wide-Angle Lenses for using filters with Wide-Angle Lenses
- LEE Filters 100mm System Deluxe Landscape Starter Kit
Unsurpassed quality of Lee. I bought Lee filters even at times when I was shooting at the medium format camera. I never regretted my choice.
Software and Memory
- SanDisk 64GB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I Memory Card
Do you want lost all photos taken by you during 7-10 days of travel due to a broken SD? I don’t use SD card large amount of storage.
- WD 4TB My Passport Wireless Pro USB 3.0 External Hard Drive
- Adobe Creative Cloud Photography Plan
Bags
The choice of camera bag depends on the volume of my photo equipment. I have four Lowepro camera bags. From the smallest to the largest expedition backpack.
