This gallery wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the pandemic. You have to agree, our lives have changed a lot in the past two years.
And what’s a landscape photographer to do when you can’t travel freely? Pay attention to the backyard.
I live out of town and I started shooting various plants and flowers in early spring. Just taking pictures so I wouldn’t forget how to hold a camera. I didn’t do anything with the pictures.
But at some point, I was scrolling through the pictures in my camera and I thought there was something interesting here.
Bingo!
It’s a new photo project.
I started following the growth of flowers and plants in my backyard, taking pictures of them as they bloom and fall off.
I didn’t set out to capture reality. I was not a photojournalist of my garden.
My goal was creativity and imagination.
Many of the photos are abstract by that. There are plays of colors, shapes, moods. Some flowers and plants are impossible to identify.
That’s a good thing.
About mid-summer, I came up with a name for this photo project, Planet Plants.
It’s the plant planet of my backyard. Now I know for sure that even a challenge for all of us like pandemic and isolation can’t be a reason to give up creating.
I look forward to hearing the good news.
