The biggest fall shooting problem for the amateur photographer is the lack of time for his hobby. We are all inspired by epic photographs taken in the mountains or national parks.
Most often such photos are taken during long photo tours. But most of us don’t have the time to go on a long trip. So we have to deny ourselves pleasure.
Admittedly, I was one of those who strongly disapproved of short one-day photo walks. However, the pandemic situation gave birth to a new genre of photography: backyard photography.
I thought it wasn’t possible, but I shot quite a large photo project in my backyard during my self-isolation and I’m still developing it. But more on that later.
For now, let’s head to the park.
Almost every city has a park where you can photograph something interesting. Of course, I understand your point about what you can shoot in this little park. Especially since it is so boring. But autumn is a great time to take such pictures. And the more so, taking pictures in the park does not require a lot of financial expenses and time.
One more reason to take pictures in a park is the park layout. Almost all parks and their plantings are compositional. You have to agree that this makes it a lot easier. You just have to wait for “that couple right there” to come out of the frame.
That’s why I try to visit the park every fall and add to my collection of fall photos.
Let’s make this article more useful and go beyond the advice to go shoot in the park. I want to show you in the example of one photo how easy it is to catch a beautiful picture near your house.
Fall Shooting
In planning my fall shooting, I went to the parkю. Walking through the park I saw this tree. The leaves of the tree are illuminated by the sun’s rays. It was impossible to walk past it.
The problem was the people. They kept getting caught in the frame. I waited for the most opportune moment and took the picture.
Unfortunately, I didn’t catch the shot without people.
Also, I didn’t like the composition. Lines! As we know lines are one of the strongest elements of composition. The diagonal lines in this shot lead to the left. This is a weak composition and should be improved.
- Camera: Canon 5Ds
- Lens: Canon 24-70mm f/4
- Aperture Priority
- 70mm, f/16, 1/5sec, ISO-400
Post-Processing
I used Adobe Lightroom in all of my processing.
It’s worth noting that the latest Camera RAW and Lightroom updates are no different and allow you to process a photo “from and through”. This is great and you can use Photoshop or Lightroom without any discomfort.
Other than that, I’ve been using my Autumn Collection Presets.
Everything is fine now. The photo can be further processed.
Judging by the Histogram, the image is underexposed, but the Histogram is not clipped, so the details are not lost and you can process it.

I opened the Autumn Collection Presets that I updated this year and started experimenting with different views.
Working with presets is very time-saving and shows many looks of the same frame. It’s left up to you to pick what you want.
I chose the fourth picture.
In this image, I liked the bright foliage, the contrast of the “warm” colors with the green of the leaves in the background. The whole shot has a “warm” hue.
But after applying the preset, the frame became even darker. One-click presets rarely work correctly.
That’s why presets are neglected by many users.
I’ve specially developed a Workflow Presets it will help you get the results you want instantly with almost any photo.
I used the Preset Workflow it is part of the Autumn Collection. By changing the exposure and brightness, I got great results. The photo was brighter, less contrast, and there was texture on the oak trunk.
- Exposure +0,5
- Brightness ++
Conclusion
So.
Before and After. Unbelievable.
Just one minute and a few clicks.
Amazing.
Post-processing has never been faster and more flexible.
